Groundation is a roots reggae band that blends elements of jazz, funk, salsa and dub. Their genre-bending sounds provide the perfect platform for the fiery, conscious lyrics of lead singer and primary writer Harrison Stafford.
Groundation formed in 1998 when Stafford (guitar/lead vocals), Marcus Urani (organ/keys/piano) and Ryan Newman (bass) met in the jazz program of California’s Sonoma State University. Over the years, the band grew to 9-pieces including a jazz horn section, percussionists and background singers.
Groundation has released nine albums independently – collaborating with reggae legends including Don Carlos and The Congos – and developed an international following. They tour extensively and will support “Building An Ark” with live shows in the US this fall and a music video for the focus track “Humility.”
‘Building An Ark’ is the best this group has ever sounded on record. Ours fans will feel that rare explosive energy that is Groundation with a focus on sonic quality, clarity and words of strength,” says Stafford.
