Leroy Smart

Kingston Jamaica born  reggae singer, producer and actor Leroy Smart is the featured artist on this episode of the Reggae Vault Classics podcast as heard live on Daflavaradio.com.  This mix includes some of my favorites from ‘The Don’ like his 1982 Volcano hit I Am The Don, his Channel One smash Ballistic Affair, and a solid cover of Bob Marley’s Waiting In Vain in a roots reggae style.

Romain Virgo Begins European Tour

Kingston, JamaicaSinger Romain Virgo has left the island to embark on what will be his first solo European tour.

Virgo, who left the island on Wednesday is also expected to release a video for his recent single, Taking You Home on Donovan Germain’s Big Stage Riddim, next week. Virgo, who also recently returned to the island after his one month US tour alongside Capleton and Munga Honorable, is excited about his first solo European stint.

“It’s going to be a different vibe holding down shows in Europe on my own, but I’m ready for it. I’ve been putting in a lot of work, and the fans are excited about what I have to offer, so that’s what I focus on, doing great performances instead of being nervous,” he said.

When Virgo returns to the island fans can look out for the singer who is known for his hits Can’t Sleep, Wanna Go Home, Love Doctor, Who Feels It Knows It and more, on shows including GT Taylor’s Christmas Xtravaganza and others.

ATL’s Best Kept Reggae Secret – Sunday’s On Da Drive (SODD)

2

The event is known as Sundays On Da Drive and has been going on in Atlanta for approximately 3 years.
Club Xpose, located at 6013 Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain has hosted this reggae music weekly event for the last 2 years. Sundays On Da Drive

I popped in this past Sunday (April 12th, 2009) to check out the vibes and as usual, was not disappointed. The highlight of S.O.D.D for me is John Wayne’s segment, usually between 2 and 4am. The selections this time were very nostalgic – I heard songs I haven’t heard since I lived in Kingston, J.A. over 20 years ago!

Selector John Wayne, who I first met while he worked on Atlanta and Virginia based sound, King Eternity, has a long and distinguished music industry resume. John showcased classics from the 80s and 90s in fine style before turning the stage over to Mix Master David who brought the vibes up to the current time again and juggled into the early Monday morning hours.

I would recommend Sundays On Da Drive especially to anyone who enjoys listening to Reggae Vault Classics, likes foundation, conscious, or lovers rock reggae. Not having to wake up early on Monday would be an added bonus.
